Learning to be Leaders

As part of our holistic approach to empowering young women, we organize Interpersonal Skills and Leadership workshops in Nonviolent Communication. The second GreenLamp-initiated workshop took place in Ethiopia in February 2017, and was very enthusiastically received by the final year students at the Hamlin College of Midwives. GreenLamp president Christina Blecher leads the courses, which focus on understanding and connecting to the needs of patients, midwives and their co-workers.

Christina says “I love to work with these young women, and to help them strengthen their skills to become role models and leaders. It is very rewarding to coach such keen students, and it makes me happy to know that they will be able to use these skills in community outreach initiatives as well as in their clinical work.”

The students also said they found the workshop valuable and motivating: “Because it taught me how to live with others in peace and in a good way.”, “It will help me in my future working in the community”, “I increased my confidence and communication skills” “I found the course exciting and interesting – I loved the teaching methods and the strategy”
